# Hollywood Stop Motion Studio

Hands-on animation · Grades 2–5 · Eight-week after-school program · 1½-hour and 3-hour workshops

A hands-on creative studio where students imagine a story, build it with LEGO, and turn it into their own short film.

Explore our eight-week after-school program, plus 1½-hour and 3-hour weekend and school’s-out workshops.

## A little world. Their own film.

Stop motion turns a series of still photographs into movement. Students imagine their own story, plan it out, and build a miniature world using LEGO characters, props, and their imagination. They animate the action frame by frame, then explore sound, green screen work, and simple editing as the format allows.

The eight-week program gives students time to develop a film from planning to sharing. Shorter workshops focus on an achievable animation activity, with time to experiment and watch their work back.

## From idea to finished film.

Students begin with an idea and turn it into a plan. They sketch storyboards, test movement, build sets, and shape each shot step by step. Watching footage back helps them adjust timing, movement, and position before the film is ready to share.

Idea → Plan → Build → Animate → Revise → Present

## What a session feels like.

**Eight-week after-school program.** The eight-week core gives a project time to develop. Early sessions introduce animation, storyboarding, green screen, and sound through short demonstrations and practice. Once their storyboards are approved, students move into guided production time to build sets, animate, and finish their films. The program ends with students sharing their work with their peers.

**1½-hour workshops.** A focused introduction to stop motion gives young makers a chance to try frame-by-frame animation, experiment with movement, and see a short sequence come to life.

**3-hour workshops.** A longer workshop gives students more time to plan a scene, build a small set, animate, and refine their work with instructor support.

Weekend and school’s-out workshops offer these shorter formats. Activities and project scope are adapted to the available time.

## More than a finished film.

How much should a character move between frames? Can the audience tell what is happening? What needs to change when a shot does not work yet?

Working through those decisions gives students practice with spatial reasoning, patience, observation, and creative problem-solving. Talking about their work also helps them build confidence in explaining ideas and listening to feedback.
